Oil on Board
Unfinished
I was able to spend some more time on this today. There's really not much to say about it except that what you see today may be different tomorrow! One thing I'm thinking is that mom's face may have to fade out somewhat--the painting really is about the little guy. Mom is holding a cell phone. I want to keep it, but also want to make sure it's "readable". It doesn't look as much like the actual people as it did when I started. I'm not sure if I'm going to worry about that or not. I may just go ahead and let it be more of an "interpretive portrait". I like the freedom of that, but have a huge strain of "get it right" running through my veins!

Love seeing the progression on this painting. I commented on your first post and one of the things that I really liked was that mom was 2nd to the baby; whether linear or soft, I so agree with your direction. Outstanding, can't wait to see more.
Vicki...i think your inclinations are right on...i like the "interpretive portrait" approach...it frees us up when we have that freedom, and I think the paintings are definitely better for it! Happy Painting!
Vicki - this painting is masterful. The figures look so natural - you can
FEEL the weight of the child. Colors and composition are fabulous and you're not even done.
Can't wait to see the finished product.
I love your ideas on this one. Go for it! Besides, what busy mother doesn't have a cell phone in her hand?
