Every year at this time I think of trips to California and seeing oranges on trees! Coming from snowy country, that's a big thing. Not only SEEING the oranges, but coming back to Oregon with big bags of them. What an amazing creation they are!

Well, this was an interesting experience! Much more difficult than I expected as there was alot to see in those little guys and the background-- I suppose it would be good to try this again when I have more time. . .

"Open Book" (sold)

8"x6"
Oil on Board

Working at the gallery and needing to paint, so here's the result. It is so good to work from life! I love taking advantage of all that using photographs allows in painting, but the challenge of seeing a three dimensional scene and translating it to two, and finding the color (!) is so invigorating. It sharpens my senses in a different way.

"Before Lunch" (sold)

6"x6"
Oil on Board
I really enjoy how things almost take on a different life when you focus in on them--I think a part of me almost expects them to get up and move! This painting reminds me of the workshop I took with Carol Marine and all she shared with us--good stuff on composition, edges and color.

Nice to be back! And thank you to all of you who have responded to the loss of our pup. It's amazing to receive notes from people you barely know and those you've never met! What a gift!

"Little Flock of Lemons" (sold)

6"x6"
Oil on Board

I kept thinking how much these slices of lemons reminded me of birds, hence the title!

With life throwing a big lemon at me, I'm having a really hard time working. I realized I need some time to paint at my own pace without worrying about whether or not I'm posting or what the quality of my work is like. Having so recently joined the Daily Painter's Gallery, I hate to take a break, but it needs to happen. I've decided to not post until March 25th, hoping I'll have learned to "make some lemonade" by by that time. So, I'll see you then. . .

This is Murphy, the little fellow we lost last week. This photo was taken at Bryce Canyon last September--he had a great life!

Buena Vista is aptly named. It is south of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge and shown here in its "spring colors". Thousands of birds and as many clouds fill the skies here creating ever-changing patterns of light and shadow.

"Wild Ride" (sold)

6"x6"
Oil on Board

The subject of this painting is pretty appropriate today! LIFE has been a wild ride the past couple of days--one day brings the good news of being included on the Daily Painters Gallery website and the next, yesterday, brings the sad news of having to put down our deeply loved dog, Murphy. Needless to say, I feel like I'm on that horse--but I am hanging on! Murphy was a joy and a blessing and all shall be well. For the moment, my concentration isn't too great and I see things that need to be changed in this painting--I'll reshoot after I make them!

"Sun in the Distance"

First of all, this is a day of celebration for me! I was notified that my blog will be included in the Daily Painters Gallery, www.dailypainters.com! I am looking forward to being a part of this group. Also, I missed noting my 100th post and see that today is my 105th--it's hard to believe! Just this time last year I was visiting the Daily Painters Gallery and the Daily Painters Guild wishing I was doing that, too--wishes come true. . .(well, there's more than a little elbow-grease involved!)

Rainy springs bring eastern Oregon to life. This painting is between Malheur Wildlife Refuge and French Glen. It was a day of constantly shifting clouds and light.

"Gary, Sketchbook in Hand"

NFS (Laura this is for you!)

Today's painting is of my husband artist Gary Vincent. I find it a bigger challenge to paint someone I know because it matters so much more to me that it look like the person! This does--and I thoroughly enjoyed painting him!

Gary's Paintings

My husband, Gary Vincent, just had a show open yesterday and I thought I'd share some of his work. At the moment we are two extremes: he does large, bold canvases in acrylic and I am working on these little paintings in oil! Most of the paintings here are from 36x48 to 48x60.

"Shady Characters" (sold)

8"x10"
Oil on 1.5" Cradled Masonite (Framing Not Needed)

I was pleased to be able to work on this today. As I painted, I couldn't help but try to imagine the history these men shared.

Painting in Process!

8"x10"
Oil on Cradled Masonite

Today's a teaching day, and I'm not feeling real great, so my painting is far from finished! I love these guys, though. They were sitting on a bench in the plaza at Santa Fe. I did 16x20 painting of them last September, but just want to spend more time with them!

I want to bring attention to a new blog by Jeffrey Boron. You can go there by clicking on his name on the links to other daily painters list to the right. His work has great color and liveliness. Beautiful!

"Ride On!" (sold)

6"x8"
Oil on Board

One of the joys of doing these little paintings has been working with these rodeo scenes--I'd done a couple before last October, but was pretty intimidated by them, actually! I really like working with motion and trying to imply the action and it's interesting to me to see how my brushwork and treatment of different areas of the paintings has changed over the course of doing this blog. It's kind of funny to me, too, because I hadn't been to a rodeo in at least 25 years and I have always been allergic to horses, so never have spent time riding! That may have to change. . .

"Deep Concentration"

This mother and daughter were deep into the experience of eating their shaved ice on this hot July day! I am looking forward to some of that heat. . .

"Waiting Her Turn"

6"x6"
Oil on Board
$100 plus $10 US s/h

She's waiting for her turn at barrel-racing at the Sisters (OR) Rodeo. I posted a painting here of this subject on Feb. 12 which I actually painted last summer. I was curious just to see how my technique would be different after all these months and quite a few paintings. It's gratifying to see that there are changes! Hopefully for the best!

A note: I have been trying all afternoon to figure out how to get the Paypal buttons on some of these paintings--sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! If not you can always email me to purchase through Paypal, but I hope to have this figured out soon!

"Careful Observation" (sold)

8"x6"
Oil on Board

It's so great to see people really look at a piece of art! The fascination that we have with pictures always amazes me and I am very grateful for people who appreciate what we do. This couple is looking at photographs by Bend, OR photographer Bruce Jackson. He's a master at what he does. I hope you'll check out his website. I believe I'll include this painting in a show coming up. It will be available through Tumalo Art Company.
