"Ride On!" (sold)

6"x8"
Oil on Board

One of the joys of doing these little paintings has been working with these rodeo scenes--I'd done a couple before last October, but was pretty intimidated by them, actually! I really like working with motion and trying to imply the action and it's interesting to me to see how my brushwork and treatment of different areas of the paintings has changed over the course of doing this blog. It's kind of funny to me, too, because I hadn't been to a rodeo in at least 25 years and I have always been allergic to horses, so never have spent time riding! That may have to change. . .

"Barrel Racer" (sold)

6"x6"
Oil on Board

Another painting from the rodeo--these women are amazing to watch as they speed around three barrels as fast as they can and how they and their horses are so much one unit!

Backgrounds in these paintings mystify me. I think if I wanted, I could do a fairly realistic rendering of them, but I need to explore being alot looser than that! I'm enjoying these challenges.
