Summer evening in Dodds Hollow, which is in the Klamath Basin in southern Oregon. . . I grew up on a farm here and I think it will always be about my favorite place. In this painting, the hay is cut and ready for my brother to get it baled.

This scene brings back some fond memories--sitting on the balcony at the Ore House in Santa Fe, having a glass of wine and dinner after a day at the workshop with Carol Marine. It was a great day, and then on top of that, this incredible light as the sun set and gave the cathedral such a gorgeous glow.

This little painting is from our trip up to Vancouver at Christmas-time. We went downtown to visit the Vancouver Art Gallery--always such a treat! The winter sun was setting early on this beautiful cold and crisp day and I got quite a few shots of this area--just haven't really had time to go through them until today. I love this kind of lighting!

"In the Fullness of Summer" NA

6"x8"
Oil on Board

This little painting comes out of the archives as I had a day full of art, but just not producing any of it! The scene here is from a drive back down from Canada into central Oregon on a summer day. It was evening, the sky and clouds so beautiful. . . I can still feel the relief of cooler air after a hot, hot day. And if I really use my imagination, I can still smell the hay that's been cut!

"Hosmer Lake Reflections" (sold)

6"x6"
Oil on Gessoboard

Today was a day for doing something different! A few weeks ago we went up to Hosmer Lake, in the Cascades not far from here and got to kayak for the first time, little dog and all! A beautiful hot day with great company including birds I'd never heard before. This painting is taken from a photo I took that evening as the reflected trees were illuminated by the setting sun. It was truly spectacular. As for this painting, after awhile I got out my palette knives when I saw how wrapped up in detail I was getting. I really enjoyed working with them!

This little painting is from a visit earlier this week to the farm I grew up on. The sun was about down and it was so quiet. Some of the sounds you hear are the horses snorting or their tails swishing, a hawk calling and the sprinklers watering the fields. The light is beautiful as it stretches over the fields. I'd like to spend more time learning to capture that!

"Jemez Country Evening" (sold)

This sunset was seen from Christ in the Desert Monastery in New Mexico. Besides being a peaceful end to the day, the evening also brought a much appreciated breeze to cool things down!
