I've been working on this second version and like it much better. I think the colors and composition work better and it was definitely much easier not working on the dark gesso for this one.

It's been very strange not working on something for my blog very often lately. I really miss not having time to paint or draw for it nearly every day, but also, it's been good to take some time to think about why I do it, what I'd like to try, etc. I absolutely love making the little paintings and hope to get back to it soon as I can. The teaching I've been doing has got me inspired to do some pen and ink wash drawings as a practice and watercolor sketches, too, just to try to shake up my seeing a bit!

A spring cold has got the better of me today and I wasn't able to finish my little painting. I decided to put this one up instead--I posted it a year ago yesterday. Kind of fun to go back in time. . . this is one of the paintings I did of Meghan at Chow restaurant here in Bend. She was so obliging that morning, allowing me to take pictures of her as she went about getting ready for the morning's business. It was a winterish morning with weak sunlight--kind of like today!

Painting in Process

12"x12"
Oil on Board

I've really been wanting to work on some paintings larger than the 6x6's and 6x8's, so I'm going through and finding some of my favorite subjects that I want to explore in a larger format. I hope to have the finished version of this for tomorrow's post.

I had breakfast at a restaurant named Chow this morning--very tasty! A blend of sauteed grains, spinach and spices topped with an egg--not that you needed to know that! Anyway, Megan, the wait-person, was great about my taking photos so I made the most of it. The restaurant is in a little old house and is filled with natural light--love that!
