I didn't have time to paint today, so worked on a drawing of one of the girls in the painting. I love doing these drawings! I love just being able to focus on the figure and leave the space around it empty. Maybe I should have titled this drawing "Into the Unknown". It's so like life! What difficulties and what gifts, what blessings the next moment may bring, we just don't know. . . always an adventure.

"Faster, Faster!" (sold)

6"x6"
Here's a barrel-racer from a rodeo I went to this summer. I really liked the sense of motion that she and her horse conveyed and I tried to keep this loose so it didn't look so frozen in time.

"Cowgirl With a Soda" (sold)

12"x6" image size
This painting surprised me! I've been using a limited palette lately of ultramarine blue, alizaron crimson, alizaron yellow and white. Today I changed the blue to pthalo blue and got this great lime green that I just had to keep. It felt good to do something with some hot color! It seems like a fair amount of the color in this painting was a result of painting then wiping it off and working with what was left. That's fairly new to me and I hope to learn to really use that technique--today it was a happy accident.

She started out being a painting today, but it just wasn't working, so I decided to draw. I sometimes forget just how much I love drawing!

Finished the painting I posted the day before yesterday--at least I think so! I need to live with it some more to know for sure. Crowds! Geez! I feel like I never quite know what to do with them--I think this is OK, but again, I need to live with it for awhile!

I really liked the dress with the boots and the cowboy hat! She was at a rodeo I went to last summer and was with two other girls dressed similarily. They will all three be in a painting one of these days!
