"Huck"

6"x6"
Oil on Panel
sold

I've been working on some paintings of dogs for a show in August and this is one of the little guys I see at the dog park--he's a couple of years old and we're not sure about his "pedigree", but I think he has a terminal case of cuteness!  Too much fun to paint!!

"Tobey, Mighty Mite!"

6"x6"
Oil on Cradled Board
NFS

Yesterday, our dog Tobey and I went for a walk along one of the river trails here in Bend, home of an absolutely GREAT parks and rec department.  I took a photo of him after he had scrambled up onto a boulder and this is the resulting paintng.  I love working with backlit subjects and I used black gesso on the board.  Nice to work on!  I couldn't possibly think of doing anything with this painting other than giving it to my husband!

By the way, I am available for commissions for your pet's portrait!

I was asked to paint this for a Christmas gift--it was so fun! The Papa looks like such a jolly guy and I LOVE anyone who obviously loves their dog!

Oh, those best-laid plans--gone awry! I am leaving tomorrow for a week to go meet my brand new grandson, Theo Alexander! Pretty exciting! I had hoped to finish my next bucking bronc linoleum block print for today's post, but too many details to wrap up before leaving! So, I realized that I had never posted this painting and decided to do so. "Dog's Best Friend" was painted nearly two years ago--when I was discovering daily painters and at the beginning of my going out with my camera in search of subject matter. It's good to remember the excitement of all that. When I discovered the Daily Painters, and Karin Jurik in particular, I felt like I had a whole new world open up regarding my own creative endeavors. This painting brings that back. I like it! I would like to paint this subject again and see how it would be different. . .

I will not be posting for at least a week, but will begin again by the 22nd at the latest. Wishing you all May-flowers. . .

Sure feels good to paint a little painting! I have really missed these. I love the small, intimate format. This was a scene I saw at the High Desert Classic equestrian event this summer. It was a hot morning, but this dog looks like he's enjoying soaking up the sun! I think I'm going to try to do a 3x3' painting of this subject--one last painting to put in next month's show!
