I'm not sure I've ever done such a little oil painting! It was fun--in big part because of the subject. Also, I decided to try working on a black ground. I had to think about the painting of it a little differently as far as putting values down. I was surprised that the color wasn't modified much by the ground. In a way, it reminds me of doing block prints as you start with the dark background and bring out the lights. Once your brain starts thinking that way, it feels really natural. I look forward to trying this again!

This is another painting from Union Station in Portland. I was attracted by the lines and colors of this subject. I love how working with reflections so easily brings me to the place where I am just seeing color shapes and I can let go for awhile of the subject matter.

I was at the library today and glanced up towards the window and saw this man sitting there--one arm out-stretched and resting on the windowsill, the sun coming from behind him and from the side. In his other hand was a book resting on his knee. I'm pretty sure he was dozing in that warm winter sun as he never moved as I plucked out my camera and quickly took a couple of shots. It was a beautiful composition that I look forward to painting.
