In readying photos for the website I'm working on today, I came across this one and realized it's a good candidate for JANUARY CLEARANCE ITEM!!  It was done a year and a half ago, is a painting that I totally enjoyed creating and would love to have it find a new home.  I did the painting from going to the High Desert Classic, an equestrian event held in Central Oregon every summer. Though I have always been highly allergic to horses, I have loved to draw and paint them.  Their energy, power and beauty is wonderful to feel.  Too, I love the precision and care of the riders at these events.  Truly an art!

I just finished this painting which is intended for next month's show. I am amazed at the colors you can get using such a simple palette--especially when I look at yesterday's painting knowing they were created with the same 4 colors! I've used alizaron yellow, permanent crimson, ultramarine blue and radiant white.

Well, I believe this is finished and it feels great! I am so used to painting the little pieces, that it is hard not to finish things in a day or so. However, it takes as long as it takes. . . I think that most of the challenges I faced with this painting were mainly because of it being larger than what I'm accustomed to--it was hard not to be all over the painting at the same time like you can be (almost) with a little piece. And then parts of it would be nearly dry when I'd go back to them after a day or so and it sometimes felt like beginning all over again. One thing that was helpful here for me, was using a limited palette. It wasn't hard to remix colors and to find the harmonies since I had just a few colors forming the foundation of the painting.
