The more I looked at yesterday's painting, the less happy I was with it, so here it is with changes.  I added the chickens and changed a couple of other details.  I think it's definitely an improvement!  Needless to say, yesterday's painting no longer exists. . .

"Beverly" portrait #2

20"x16"
Oil on Canvas
Sold

I painted a portrait of this lovely lady last April (posted here on April 21) and was asked to do another one so both of her children could have one.  I was given two photos of her to work with for the 1st painting and chose what I liked best from each to make a painting I thought would work well.  Then the opportunity came to paint the second one and I ended up taking what I hadn't used before to paint this one.  It has made for two distinctly different portraits--not only in appearance, but also in mood.  Fortunately, everyone is happy with both and I had a great experience doing them.

On Saturday, we took another trip north to the Hood River Valley getting more inspiration for paintings for the Rural Life Reflections project.  What a gorgeous day!  The colors of the changing trees was awesome, temps in the upper 60's-low 70's and skies a mixture of rain clouds and sun.  This little painting comes from a farm I hadn't previously visited also had a corn maze (maize maze?) along with lots of things to keep the kids busy having fun.

As part of the Reflections on Rural Life project, we are visiting people, businesses and orchards in the Hood River Valley in north-central Oregon.  Such a beautiful spot!  Marcia, the pie-maker at Apple Valley Store, graciously agreed to let us photograph and paint her.  She made 3500 pies last year!  Visit their site for a look at a great family-run business and delicious foods to order.

Somewhere in Manhattan, NY, between 49th and 48th streets!  Wish I could remember just where it was!  What I DO remember, though, is that it was a beautifully magical evening with the sunset, the sounds, the people and all the sights that are so different from my norm.

Oil on Panel
$100 plus $15 domestic s/h
email me to purchase this painting through Paypal

This is a study of the owner of the Hood River Lavender Farm, one of the places I've been visiting for the Rural Life Reflections project we're working on.  That day, they were harvesting the lavender and what an amazing aroma!  The moment I stepped out of my car, there it was.  Delicious!  And she was so generous telling me about how they distill the oils, explaining why they are organic and the different processes they go through as they prepare their lavender for different uses--also, sent me home with a huge armful of fresh cut lavender stems.

"Rebecca and Misty"

11"x14"
Oil on Panel
Sold

This painting is for a family whose daughter is involved in a therapeutic equestrian group called "Healing Reins".  In the organization's own words, "they connect riders with special needs to horses with special gifts".  There is a long story behind the painting, but suffice it to say that it is a gift from a community of people who love that family.  It is a blessing to be a part of it!

"Baby Charlie"

6"x6"
Oil on Panel
NFS

This little painting is of my new grand-nephew at 5 days old and is a gift for his mom and dad.  When his sister was born a couple of years ago I tried to do a painting of her as an infant but really never liked it very well.  It's a challenge to not let the texture of the brushstrokes destroy the look of the soft baby-skin--because I want both!  I think this one went pretty well.
