I was out looking for inspiration for paintings and stopped in at a great little restaurant here in Bend, Jackson's Corner.  Yes, their food is good, they have kombucha on tap and lots of other great things to offer, BUT what I like best is that the space is full of natural light!  Anna allowed me to sketch and photograph her while she was studying for a test.  Thank you, Anna!

Like the previous painting, I did this one this spring.  The scene is at the MET in the sculpture garden.  I loved the light there!  Wow!  And I was struck by all the people walking by with their eyes on nearly anything but the wonderful artwork around them.  We humans are interesting creatures!!  It seems like so often we read about things in lieu of experiencing them!

This painting is from April of this year--along with  a number of others I haven't posted here!  I decided it's about time to do so!

One of the main reasons I wanted to paint this painting was to explore the effects of the light and shadows.  I also enjoyed the challenge of creating the depth in the painting and working with a crowd scene.  What a great place!  Wish I could visit it regularly for more inspiration!

It feels like forever since I've had time to think about posting a painting!  Painting has had to take a back seat to teaching and other commitments since autumn and I'm happy that it's time to get back to it more regularly.

This little painting is of a scene at a local spot, Sage Cafe.  I am always drawn to back-lighting (or the more graciously sounding "contre-jour"!) and this was a good subject for me to get back to work with!
