"Young Jumper" (sold)

6"x6"
Oil on Board
I loved the confidence these kids showed on the horses and kind of envied their experience! This little painting was a challenge--spent alot of time on proportion and the feel of the movement. Sometimes it's really difficult to get these things right on such a small scale, and, for me, when I'm working with the figure or another live creature, it's important to do that.

Buena Vista is aptly named. It is south of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge and shown here in its "spring colors". Thousands of birds and as many clouds fill the skies here creating ever-changing patterns of light and shadow.

"Sun in the Distance"

First of all, this is a day of celebration for me! I was notified that my blog will be included in the Daily Painters Gallery, www.dailypainters.com! I am looking forward to being a part of this group. Also, I missed noting my 100th post and see that today is my 105th--it's hard to believe! Just this time last year I was visiting the Daily Painters Gallery and the Daily Painters Guild wishing I was doing that, too--wishes come true. . .(well, there's more than a little elbow-grease involved!)

Rainy springs bring eastern Oregon to life. This painting is between Malheur Wildlife Refuge and French Glen. It was a day of constantly shifting clouds and light.

It felt great to paint something looser and with more of a feeling of freedom after spending so much time on my previous painting! Maybe it's partly to do with the location of the scene pictured here. It's over in south-eastern Oregon near Malheur Wildlife Refuge and Steens Mountain. I spent some time there soaking up the feeling of the wide open spaces and enjoying the continuous drama of changing clouds.
