Well, I got to work some more on this painting and am happy with the result! It's a pretty close likeness, but besides that, I managed to capture the expression I wanted. Trying to get that expression was quite the process! It was trial and error for so long--and it just made me study her that much more closely. It's amazing how the smallest detail makes all the difference, just the most subtle line or color note can change it to a different person.
